This week saw the arrival of two new studio drumsets. First up is a classic mid 90's Yamaha Recording Custom with birch shells. This 6 piece kit is arguably the most recorded drumset in the world.
Next we have a high end 6 piece Gretsch wih maple shells. This is the LOUDEST drumset we have with tons of resonance due to the GTS suspension mounts.
Remember, all drumsets, instruments etc are available for use at no extra charge!

Drum tracking session today with Gospel group PF. Engineer Hoin Kim put drummer Sunbong Kim to work on various songs for their new album. Hoin Kim utilized Greenstone's vast array of snare drums to select just the right drum to match the timbre of each song. The results were great and I can't wait to hear it mixed.
Hip Hop artist Medina (aka 6Milly) with producers Milana and TB of CTDCRecords dropped by the studio today to record vocals for an upcoming release. Engineer Jason Villaroman orchestrated the session utilizing the amazing vocal talents of Daudi and guitar skills of John Weisberg. Also special thanks to producer's Isreal and Ace for their hard work. The collaboration of artists and styles made for a great session and original track.
Latin sessions continue this week recording tracks for the new Bolero Productions feature film. Producers Louis Roche and Sherry Miller use vocalist Gilberto Torres to bring authenticity to a collection of Sergio De Karlo originals. Greenstone Studios is pleased to be a part of this exciting new project.
Greenstone Studios' client Amy Jo Lomas debut album was reviewed this week in West Coast Performer Magazine. Congratulations on the review and all your hard work Amy Jo. Also good work to our friends over at Bernie Becker Mastering. Get your copy now!
The Womack session also incorporated the fine talents of the Soul Lounge Crew. Guitarist Tetsuya, drummer Dana Taylor, Jarell Gaines on the bass and Tony Williams from PID Production on keys. These guys laid down a strong backbone for Zekkariyas (aka Cecil Womack) to orchestrate some of their signature hits. We were very impressed by these guys so stay tuned for more!
Great session today with Womack & Womack along with Ejyptsian Queen, in preparation for their South African tour. The roots of this group trace back to the very origins of American soul music with the great Sam Cooke and Womack brothers. The session was inspirational to say the least.
We've been busy this year installing our brand new Pro Tools HD2 Accel PCIe System w/ 192 I/O along with Digidesign's brand new C|24 Control Surface. In addition we've added industry standard mics, nearfield monitors and software. Check out the equipment page for a complete list of upgrades.
Today's session includes both trumpet, saxaphone and flute courtesy of Max O'Leary and Will Vargas, part of the Emi Kasai Band. The lads really shined with their tight performances and full sound. We'll definately have to get these guys back!
Emi Kasai Band return to lay down horn parts for their EP. Experienced LA session players Max O'Leary and Will Vargas add the icing to a great sounding record.
Dead Pixel began work on their debut single. The Indy Rock trio impressed us with a great song and performances and we're eager to get this one mixed. Stay tuned.
Uncertain returned this week to record horn parts for their upcoming album. LA jazz player Allen Mez turned up to lay down saxaphone for the new LP. Session went great and the new tracks really add to the project.
La grabación para el nuevo disco de Ernesto y Los Poetas Del Rock comenzó hoy. La sesión del bajo y la batería resultaron como planeado, cortesía de Sam Correa y Matthew Moore. También se trabajo en la guitarra con Ernesto y con el cantante Hernan Santuchi. Ernesto y Los Poetas Del Rock son mas que rock en español clásico, están listos para conquistar a los Estados Unidos y a México.

LA guitarist Marcus Watkins laid down tracks for the new Uncertain record. Intricate harmonies and some serious guitars were well noted. Nice one Marcus!

Members of Uncertain were back in the studio today. Bass player Austin Nicholsen provided a solid backbone to the track with Mr Uncertain finishing off some keys. The raw track is sounding great with only a few overdubs to go. Stay tuned.

Work began today on the debut record for St Philip's. We got off to a promising start with the band laying down some tight rhythm tracks under the guidance of producer Joe Coffman. Next week, edits and overdubs. Sounding good fellas!

Hollywood band Big Japan stopped by Greenstone to do some preproduction for their upcoming release. Can't wait to hear it lads.

Solo artist Amy Jo Lomas tracked and mixed her debut EP "Sunday Matinee on Fire" at Greenstone this month. Set for a June 22nd release, check out Amy Jo's Record Release Party @ Aura Nightclub.

Sessions this week saw Uncertain recording drum tracks for an upcoming release. Definately one of the more unique acts we've had the pleasure of working with. Mr Uncertain himself was in attendance along with experienced drummer Jon Hunkiewicz and singer Crystal Swarovski - check these guys out.

Record producer Mick McMains brought in up and coming rock/metal band The Ten Bells to work on tracks for their next release. The lads played hard, exploding with drummer Cody's double-kick drum setup.

Emi Kasai Band return in 2007 to add tracks to their debut EP. Fresh from a tour of Japan, the group is set to hit the LA scene.

Unpopable frontman Addi Somekh with veteran drummer Danny Frankel lay down tracks for the groups upcoming release.

Merry Xmas, Happy New Year and welcome back from the holidays! With some new construction completed, Greenstone Studios is ready for 2007, hope you are.

Finished vocals and preliminary mixing on the Emi Kasai Band EP.

The balloon drums created a kind of "cinematic" landscape, something I have never heard before, while the balloon bass gave the tracks a raucous feel rounded out by the guitar. All in all definitely worth checking out, especially if you can catch a live show. pt 2

Recorded LA-duo Addi Somekh and Henry Bermudez of Unpopable this week. With tracks produced by Front Row, Unpopable enlisted experienced drummer/percussionist Kenny Wollesen to round out this eclectic line-up. With Addi's homemade balloon bass and balloon drums the session was definitely a unique experience. pt 1

Emi Kasai Band rolled into Greenstone this week to record their debut EP. The band sounded great with a tight rhythm section and tasteful guitars. Can't wait to lay down vocal tracks and finish mixing the record. Check them out on MySpace.com.

Singer / songwriter duo Jennifer Dyer and Mike Ridgewell recorded guitar and vocals today for their upcoming demo.

Great session today with local band The Nightmares. Produced by Front Row, The Nightmares fuse an old school sound with contemporary songwriting. We expect big things, check out their website.

New Los Angeles trio, The Letter Green recording tracks for their debut EP. The first session went well with more production to come. Stay tuned.

An all "Kiwi" session. Solo artist bella with fellow New Zealand musician Johnny Kempt recording tracks for her US debut.

The lads from The Peak Show came by for some fun in the studio. These guys are about as tight as it gets so the tracks went down super-easy. Cheers to Front Row, Derock and Alex.

The female vocal tracks on the number were performed by Miss V, a guest artist on the track with an amazing voice and obvious talent. With all vocal tracks down we began the mixing process. A great song and performances, Xcedera is definitely a group to watch out for.

R&B performers Xcedera Music Group visited Greenstone this week to record a track for their upcoming album. With a blend of R&B and Hip Hop, brothers Alvin and Calvin showcased their vocal abilities and production skills.

The instrument tracks were tight leaving just some vocal overdubs to do as well as the final mixdown. If the live tracks are any indication I expect the finished product will sound kick ass. Check them out live or on myspace.com

Recorded a live demo of four piece blues band, Tarbender today. Talented musicians and great guys, Tarbender performed live, laying down five songs. Their brand of blues was definitely their own as well as paying homage to some of the greats. These guys have done their homework.

Local hardcore band, Blood Of Ours hit Greenstone today to lay down tracks for their debut EP. Working with producer Front Row, this five piece group put on a tight live performance and generally kicked our ass. Nice one lads.

Additional guitar tracks were laid down for the Susan Laurenzi album. Veteran bluesman John Marx brought in a collection of classic guitars and recorded some truly soulful accompaniments. John's experience and tasteful approach were a welcome inspiration to all of us at Greenstone.

Live demo session with LA based working band, Helicopter. A tight band with a great sound resulted in a fun night of recording. Expect to see more of these guys around town!
Soul Dogs front woman Sharon Benson came by Greenstone to play violin on the Susan Laurenzi album. She had her work cut out for her but did a great job of infusing both classic and modern violin with Susan's unique sound.
Record producer and drummer extroadinaire Front Row laid down drum tracks for singer/songwriter Sarah Castro's latest release. We were all impressed with both Sarah's voice and her material and Greenstone is excited to be involved with such a promising new artist.
Work continued on Susan Laurenzi's album today with pro session bass player Dan Lutz completing the rhythm section tracks. Dan's tight performance was impressive and we can't wait to start mixing the record.
Up and coming kiwi solo artist bella came by Greenstone to record vocals for her new EP. With a unique blend of dub electronica and soul based vocals, bella brings a fresh urban New Zealand sound to America.
Tracking of the new Susan Laurenzi album began with Adam Gust on drumset and percussion and Susan Laurenzi on acoustic guitars and lead vocals. Capturing the live performance is critical to the unique sound of this record and the preliminary tracks were a testament to this approach. Can't wait till this one's released.
R&B producers, the Monster Brothers, along with new soul singer Peachez came by Friday to record their new song. The track sounded tight with both Winston and Peachez putting down some killer vocals. Keep your eyes and ears open for these guys!
Solo artist Chris Taylor brought in drummer Adam Gust to record tracks for his latest project. Both drumset and percussion were used to infuse the tracks with a distinctly latin/jazz feel.
We took a break from recording Friday and visited the 2005 NAMM Show. We waded through masses of people and acres of equipment to keep up on the latest so that you don't have to.
Tracking on the debut H.E.L.P album finished this week. Sessions included upright bass tracks courtesy of Dustin Morgan and vocals by H.E.L.P duo Jeddrah and Richard. Mixing of the album will continue through January so stay tuned for the release date.
Sessions this week included Jonathan Mitchell recording drums and percussion for the H.E.L.P album. From 5 piece drumset to djembe to roasting pan, Jonathan is truly a versatile musician.
With all three musicians being so accomplished, it was just a matter of capturing every nuance of their performance. Thanks to Shawn for the "shortcuts".
Guitarist John Kregor flew in from Chicago to record at Greenstone Studios with Dustin Morgan on bass and drummer
Victor Vanacore III. The jazz trio laid down a live set of standards and John Kregor originals.
Recording of the H.E.L.P album continued with the majority of vocal tracks being finished. Esteemed vocal coach Hale Porter paid Greenstone a visit to lend an ear during the session.
Drum tracking continues on the Silence Is Treason record. This debut album is set for an early 2005 release so keep in touch with Nine 12 Records.
Nine 12 Records latest signing, Silence Is Treason began tracking their debut album today. With Front Row producing, Sara from Nine 12 brought in band members Donato and Dominic to record drum tracks.
The whole Greenstone family paid a visit to John and J.J over at Golden Mastering. With a first class facility and many years of experience, these guys do an amazing job. Mastering of the FishHook album came out great and we'd like to thank everyone over at Golden Mastering for all their hard work and hospitality, cheers.
Andy Bores and Mark Daley came in for a night session to record drums for their upcoming EP. The tracks went down no problem with tight drumming from Mark. Keen to see how the songs turn out as these guys are doing something really unique.
Joanie and Bud of Fishook finished up the last of the vocals for the new record which is really sounding great.
A beautiful 5 piece Slingerland drumkit has joined the Greenstone family. Can't wait for this classic sounding kit to make its recording debut.
Jeddrah from H.E.L.P laid down keyboard parts for the new record. Hope to have the rest of the tracking done in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned.
Tracking on the H.E.L.P record continued this week. With acoustic guitar parts finished, we laid down vocal guides ready for percussion and piano tracks.
Mike Saz from Keno came by to record drum tracks for their upcoming EP. Keep you posted on the release date.
H.E.L.P receives the International Songs of Peace award at the 2004 LA Music Awards for their Greenstone Studios production of Every Little Bit. The song was a special pre-release mix from their debut album, A Well Lived Day, out early 2005.
Added a Chad Smith Signature series snare drum to the collection. Tunes up high and tight!
Mixing of the new FishHook album underway. We're working right through Thanksgiving to have it finished by early December.
We recorded with the 1960's Blue Sparkle Premier kit this week. We got that vintage English sound that is perfect for our current project.
Started work on the debut H.E.L.P album. With pre-production and initial tracking underway, we are hoping for a January release date.
Greenstone's mobile studio visited St Timothy's cathedral to record the resident choir for a track on the upcoming FishHook album. Nothing captures the acoustics of a cathedral like being there. Thanks to Frank and the St Timothy's choir.
Greenstone has finally gone portable with our new Mbox/Powerbook setup. Love those on sight recordings! When you can't get the guys to the studio, you take the studio to them. Also provides an extra editing station - Greenstone Studio 'B'.

 

Received a set of Zildjian Mastersound 13" hihats. They sound super funky!
Ex Peak Show producer Front Row and Nine12 Records' Sara and Emily came by to hammer out some drum tracks for his new solo release. The much anticipated new album should be out soon on Nine12 Records.
Butchered a Marshall 80W 220V combo today. We now have a usable 80W mini-stack that runs on 110V.The head and cab weren't getting along, nothing that a chainsaw couldn't fix!
Tracking began on FishHook's debut album. Pre-production went well and studio musicians are booked. Hope to have the majority of the record tracked by early November.
Wanted a darker ride cymbal so grabbed a new Zildjian K 21" Special Dry Custom. Beautiful sound and a welcome addition to the arsenal.
Grammy winning engineer/producer Jeff Poe brought in his current project to lay down all the drums for the album.
*Jeff was a great friend of Greenstone Studios and will be sadly missed by us all. His untimely passing was a great shock so we celebrate his memory through the music he left us with, thanks Jeff.
A 12" TAMA snare joined our family today. Has a wicked rim shot that cuts through the mix.
Recorded some tunes with The Peak Show, one of LA's tightest bands. There was a lot of energy in the room today.
